Sax Preacher (born Darrell Wilson, also known as Minister Rahim Chesed Aton) is a highly gifted Chicago-based alto saxophonist and entertainer known for his soulful, spiritual, and high-energy performances. Over a career spanning decades, he has become a staple of the Chicago music scene, combining smooth jazz, gospel, and R&B.Biography and BackgroundRoots: Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, he started playing the saxophone in 1972 at Englewood High School.Musical Education: He studied under jazz great Jimmy Ellis at Olive-Harvey College, Kennedy-King College, Loop College, and Columbia College.
Overcoming Adversity: In 1987, Sax Preacher was diagnosed with an incurable lung disorder called Sarcoidosis and was told he would never play the sax again. Through faith and perseverance, he continued to master his craft.Career: He has released multiple projects under TOMA Records, distributed over 10,000 copies of his CDs and DVDs, and performed across the US, Canada, and Finland.Style and RepertoireHe is widely recognized for his charismatic stage presence, colorful artistic garments, and his signature move of walking through the crowd serenading the audience.
